Magical Demon Gibot

Hybrid Film (WIP)

It is a stop-anim-style hybrid film, which tells a story about a disguised demon who lives a doublelife as a monotonous human accountant and the city’s localsuperhero. He follows the ultimatum of risking his job or heroically saving a citizenin need.

3D Animation Process

Working on Magical Demon Gibot was a total adventure, especially since I dove into my first all‑stepped animation instead of the usual spline workflow. Every single timing tweak and pose tweak had to be locked in frame by frame, which meant I spent way more time double checking those burst‑and‑hold moments. It was tough, but I actually loved the extra precision it pushed me to find.

Reflection

We were a lean team of ten, and we had just ten weeks to bring this buff, muscular demon robot to life from scratch. Our rigger definitely earned their paycheck, building a rig for such a powerhouse character under a tight deadline was no joke. It also pushed me, as the animator, to get creative with “cheating” the camera: knowing when to hide a joint twist or exaggerate a silhouette so the performance reads without perfect deformation everywhere.

Honestly, I fell for the character’s design from day one. He’s this cool mix of brute strength and unexpected grace—like a ballerina who bench‑presses small cars. That duality made every animation pass ridiculously fun.

Our team communication was another highlight. From day zero we set up clear channels, daily check‑ins, quick sketch reviews, it kept us all in sync. Whenever production threw us curveballs or the producer sent back notes, we huddled, iterated, and even brainstormed fresh ideas that ended up making our shots stronger and more surprising.
